Popa Trekking
Trekking to the summit of Mount Popa ( 1,518m ) offers
magnificent scenery, cool mountain breeze, and rewarding sights of
rare flora and fauna. Trekkers may expect to spend 2.5 hrs (
approx. 4 miles ) each way to and from the summit. However for the
more adventurous at heart, guests may wish to continue for an
additional 2 hrs into the crater ( weather permitting ).
An alternative to the summit climb of Mount Popa would be a visit
to the Popa Taung Kalat. Situated approximately 1 miles from Popa
Mountain Resort, Popa Taung Kalat is a volcanic plug strewn from
the now extinct Mount Popa Volcano 250,000 years ago. The Mahigiri
shrine now resides at the top of this plug and the visitors may
take the 777 step climb to the top of this plug to worship or view
the sights.
The resort organizes trekking trips with Forest Rangers providing
guests with necessary commentary en-route. Packed snacks or lunch
may also be arranged. Due to precipitation and cloud cover, we
recommend that trekkers commence their journey no later than at
7:0am.
As the hike requires a reasonable state of physical fitness, we
would like to discourage guests with coronary disease or other
serious physical problems from participating.
And there are some short trekking ways such as Kyauknathoe –one
and Kyauknathoe – Two. Kyauknathoe means a big stone which looks
like a bull-shape naturally. These places are famous for meditation
regarding with religions of local area. It will take 10 minutes
walk from Hotel. And Kyauknathoe – Three at Ye Nge is 2.5 miles
far away from hotel and can go there by horse.
